Amrit Ray, M.D., M.B.A. joined the Ultragenyx board in April 2022. Dr. Ray is an independent board director and advisor to life sciences companies. Previously, Dr. Ray was global president, head of R&D and medical and executive leadership team member at Pfizer Upjohn where he oversaw all aspects of research, Phases I-IV development, regulatory, safety and medical affairs worldwide. Dr. Ray chaired the R&D investment committee and served as the company’s most senior decision-maker and spokesperson on patient matters. Dr. Ray’s additional experience includes serving as the chief safety officer, chief medical officer and R&D leadership team member at Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and as the chief patient officer at Biohaven.

Dr. Ray earned degrees in Immunology and in Medicine at Edinburgh University and an M.B.A. at Dartmouth College. He serves as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University, a director of the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases and a director of The Hastings Center for bioethics and health policy.
